YouTube Rebanned By Turkey
YouTube has been issued a ban order of 30 month by the Turkish court for posting a video on the site supposedly showing the former chairman of the opposition party of the country in bedroom with a female aide and the video cannot be removed. The new ruling came after the end of YouTube ban by a different Turkish court at the weekend, which was there since 2008 May, after posting videos which according to the government of Turkey were insulting the founder of republic, Mustafa Keman Ataturk.
When the offensive clips were removed by a Germany company employed by the Turkish governemtn, the ban was lifted. But YouTube’s parent company, Google re-published the videos again and said they wre not violating copyrights of anyone.
At the same time, another Turkish court in Ankara has ordered the Telecommunication Board of Turkey to re-enforce the ban, if Google refuses to take off the videos which are deemed offensive to the government of Turkey. Google representatives in Turkey are checking into the reports since 2008 May. Internet users of Turkey who are waiting to access YouTube have been successful in doing that with the help of proxy websites. Turkey’s internet laws have been criticized by the internet freedom campaigners and regulators.
