WeTab: The Potential iPad killer – WeTab vs iPad…
Only earlier today we posted about the iPad’s continuing donimation of the gadget market… However…
“WeTab” a new tablet PC developed by a Berlin Firm Neofonie aims to bridge the gap between the publishing world and the internet and in the process competing with Apple’s iPad. The device will work with the existing Android Market and also have its very own WePad AppStore.
The WeTab combines 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, webcam, up to 32GB storage, Wi-Fi, 3G , six hours of battery life and one of the special features of the Neofonie WeTab is that it runs the Android OS. . WeTab also features Flash and Adobe Air, the platform that many magazine publishers including Stern Magazine and Wired, have chosen for their digital version. The WeTab has been built to consume digital newspaper and magazine and, there is a hope that it could attract elderly users in addition to the general public.
Initially it was named “WePad” but Neofonie wisely decided to change the name “WeTab” to “differentiate” it from the competition with iPad. Neofonie states, “To clearly differentiate our products within the international market for tablet computers, as of today we have changed the product name of our tablet computer from WePad to WeTab. Similarly, the company formerly known as WePad GmbH will now trade under WeTab GmbH. This change only concerns the name of the product and company. All other particulars and pre-orders are not affected.” Helmut Hoffer von Ankershoffen, founder and managing director of the Neofonie, said his open platform product contrasts Apple’s business strategy for the iPad, which he alleges “dictates constraints all the way to marketing” for publishers and despite being a potential rival of the Apple iPad, the “WeTab” is not an “iPad killer” as viewed by many.
