On Wednesday, Toshiba has announced their release of a 600GB, 2.5” hard drive (the MBF2600RC hard drive), according to an official release.

According to Toshiba, the 10025 RPM device is aimed at “key, data-intensive storage applications such as midrange volume servers, storage arrays, and blade-mounted and rack-mounted servers.”

Martin Larsson, vice president of storage for Toshiba Europe released the following statement: “The generation of high volumes of data is increasing in pace, and businesses are under immense pressure to accurately and securely back up this information…It is therefore vital that HDD manufacturers continue to develop first-rate solutions that are agile and robust enough to support their storage needs.”

To improve security even further, Toshiba also announced they will be offering a self-encrypting version of the product. The 2.5” hard drive will also be released in 450GB and 300GB versions. Although this new line will be available in April, Toshiba did not disclose any prices.

Toshiba has entered the new trend of small storage devices which are becoming more popular in servers and storage arrays due to their power efficiency and space allowance.
