multipointAccording to reports, Microsoft is ready to launch their MultiPoint Server 2010 soon, after development began in November of last year.

The new server will allow schools to run multiple systems (including keyboard, mouse, and monitor) from a single computer, with ten different intended set-ups. In a statement released by Microsoft, vice president Anthony Salcito intends to listen to customer demands: “We heard clearly from our customers in education that to help fulfill the amazing promise of technology in the classroom, they needed access to affordable computing that was easy to manage and use.”

The new system is set to receive acclaim from school boards and teachers alike, due to its simplicity and accessibility. Microsoft’s website states the advantages of the new Server, which will allow each student to have their own username and ID; students can share files with each other easily; the teachers can monitor all of the students’ information; and increased privacy for each student’s files and data.

As a result of this intended success, NComputing, who offer a similar product for Linux, will add MultiPoint Server 2010 to their product line-up. Similarly, ThinGlobal, Hewlett-Packard, Tritton and Wise all intend to build products based on Microsoft’s software.
