consolesElectronic Arts CFO Eric Brown has recently stated that there is no significant demand for a next generation video game console, according to reports from gamesindustry.biz, much to the chagrin of world gamers.

According to the report, Brown stated that due to technological advances, there is no need for a next generation console. In the past, he stated, gaming consoles had a shorter generation due to advances primarily in CPU technology, allowing for a significant increase in quality from one console to the next; today’s consoles have reached a level of sophistication that a new generation of consoles would be unnecessary.

Sony has recently declared that their popular PS3 is a ten-year product, with no intention of creating another console. Microsoft has agreed, stating that their Xbox 360 will not be replaced in the foreseeable future.

However, the Nintendo is rumoured to be ready to replace their popular Wii, due to technological disadvantages, most notably a lack of HD gaming, although Nintendo has expressed they have no intentions of creating a next generation console (the Wii HD). According to Nintendo, there is no need to introduce a new console at this time, seeing how the Wii is currently the top selling console on the market.
