100mb/s broadband soon to be offered by Virgin
Virgin Media has claimed that by the end of 2010, they will offer a 100MB/s broadband service. This is quite the jump from their current subscription plans, which offer only three variations: a ?20 per month plan that provides 10MB/s broadband, 20MB/s for?30, and a 50MB/s plan that will cost the subscriber?38 per month. All three of which are fractions of Virgin’s intended new plan. All of the plans are available on a broadband-only subscription.
With broadband speeds of this calibre, users will be able to download an entire music album in less than five seconds, a TV program within 30 seconds, and an HD movie in under eight minutes.
Many are dubious about Virgin’s groundbreaking plan, claiming that subscribers will not be able to consistently attain 100MB/s to make it worthwhile; however Virgin Media claims that their fibre-optic network “means it is able to deliver very close to the advertised broadband speeds” which should please the sceptics.
Virgin Media is already planning a 200MB/s plan, but a release date is far from prepared, but those who choose to use the up-coming 100MB/s will surely need to satiate their lust for the ultimate broadband speed.
