Lady Gaga a big help for Vevo
The new music video site Vevo has stated that almost 25% of the videos watched on their site are that of music icon Lady Gaga.
Vevo, which was created by the three record labels Universal Music, EMI Music, and Sony Music Entertainment (with Warner Music Group currently in negotiations), started the site as a response to the popularity of music videos on YouTube. With music video traffic reaching such heights, Google (which owns YouTube) helped create the Vevo site, and continue to help them now. Every time a user selects a Lady Gaga video, YouTube directs the user to Vevo’s homepage.
According to Commscore, Vevo received 35 million unique visitors in January 2010, and hope to continue this trend over the next few months. However, Vevo has not quite finished tweaking their system. Although the site has received over a billion page views two months after its debut, Vevo is still yet to make a profit; albeit the record companies are still “building a business” and will require more time before a profit can be seen. Needless to say, with the help of the iconic Lady Gaga, profits will soon sore for the three companies.
