The year of the iPhone app but what lies ahead?
Nearly everything this year has been about applications, mostly the iPhone app store. The app store is far ahead of everyone else and has set the benchmark for all of the other competing manufacturers. Apple boasts over 100,000 applications. This places them far ahead of the mighty Google with only 20,000 applications for Android. In a comparison Google is no competition.
You might be asking what lies ahead? In a few weeks the iPhone app store will become old news, however what is set to take its place in the spotlight? What will be the most sought after feature of the future?
Well let’s take a look at Broadcom. They have released the VideoCore processor. This device to the majority means absolutely nothing, however the features will mean a lot to many people. Why is that you might be asking? It is said to be able to give mobile phones the ability to include a 20 megapixel camera. In addition it boasts the capability to shoot multiple shots per second, image stabilization, panorama mode as well as face or smile detection.
But that’s not all, you will also see a smashingly successful party piece. That’s right it will have the ability to capture full 1080p high-definition video recording! That is just simply amazing.
Is that a big deal or what? Will mobile phones truly be able to replace the digital camera? Yes, if Broadcom has anything to do with it. In addition Broadcom has set its sights on gaming consoles. This new processor will allow full native rendering at 1080p resolution.
Can you handle anymore? Well there most certainly is more. Not only does the new processor feature a smaller footprint than its predecessors, it also will have a much lower power consumption.
This brings a huge list of benefits to market with very little drawbacks. It may not be cheap at first but who really cares if a phone will contain a 20 megapixel camera, 1080p video and HD gaming in one unit. The future definitely looks bright.
