It has been reported that Acer are planning to release around 6 smartphones (Android) during the 1st 6 months of next year.

Roger Yuen, Acer executive, actually showcased a pretty wide variety of mobile phones based on the Android phone technology, and stated that Acer had a target of releasing up to 6 Android based smartphone handsets – It remains to be seen if this factored in the Acer Liqued – already launched in Asia, but not here in the UK.

The pricing has not yet be given for the new handsets, although it is said be to targeted at a broad spectrum of users, with the low end to the mid end market prices being expected to be taken up by the vast majority of consumers.

The Acer exec also said that the company intended releasing at least on business phone running on the Android platform, which is presumably mean’t to target the business consumers that currently use the Blackberry range of phones.

Acer has modified the Android platform slightly, giving it an increased number of apps, possibilities in the pipeline are music / video streaming apps, which could prove very popular with gadget lovers.

Acer Still Supporting Windows Mobile Platform.

Acer is not said to be dropping fully their support for the Windows Mobile system at present, but how long that lasts remains to be seen, as more and more manufacturers seem to be switching to the Android mobile platform.
