The popular handheld games console, the nintendo DS has reached the 10 million sales figure, reported Gfk Chart-Track.

This means that just over one fifth of the UK population actually ownes a nintendo DS, although it is obviously more likely that some people either own more than one, or have upgraded models or replaced broken handsets.

Many people feel that the popularity of the Nintendo DS and DSi is down to the amount of family style game titles that the console boasts, including the ‘pet keeping’ style games, such as the Nintendogs, that has the player looking after ‘virtual pets’

These reasons also make the game more accessible to non-gamers, thus increasing sales to more than the standard gamers marketplace

The nintendo DSi XL, released recently in Japan, will be sold in Europe relatively soon.

Nintendo also has the accolade of their Wii console being the swiftest selling games console in UK history.
