Motorola’s Droid Handset Gets Rooted by ‘Zinx Verituse’ Hardware Modder…
As with the Iphone, hackers have now ‘rooted’ the Droid smartphone handset, from Motorola. This means that users can install services, gadets and apps from a much wider spread of providers, rather than being limited to the offerings of the handsets provider.
A ‘hacker’ of hardware, calling himself ‘Zinx Verituse’ has coded and released the rooting system for the Droid, including a guide on how to root the Droid smart-phone handsets and weblinks to download the programs.
The users, once they have run the rooting exploit, will be able to download widgets, apps and other such tools without being restricted to Motorola approved/provided services.
The method of rooting the Droid phone is not completely devoid of risk, however. Devices can be left unusable, or with certain features disabled. Above and beyond this, messing around with the smartphone in this manner will more than likely void any warrenty that users may have with Motorola, as well as breaking the terms of the company’s service agreement.
