Microsoft Announces Enhancements For Xbox360
Microsoft announced quite a few interesting enhancements to the Xbox360 yesterday at E3. You’ll be able to use Facebook, Twitter, and Last.fm all from your Xbox. Netflix will allow you to browse the catalog rather than loading your queue. This means you won’t need a computer to pick your movies before you watch them on the Xbox. Microsoft is also relaunching their video store that will allow instant streaming in up to 1080p quality.
I don’t think adding Facebook or Twitter to the Xbox will be that useful, I get enough Twitter and Facebook updates on my phone which is always right next to me anyway. Unless you have a keyboard or the messenger kit on your xbox typing out status updates would be a real pain with just the controller. Adding Last.fm is great though, especially if it lets you stream the music while you are playing a game. There are a few games that I like better with a little outside music added in, the in-game music just doesn’t cut it.
I was really hoping for Hulu to show up in that list but it hasn’t yet. Maybe one day there will be native Hulu compatibility on the Xbox. Currently you can get Hulu on the Xbox with an application called PlayOn, but it’s not free. I like things that don’t cost money which is why I like Hulu so much.
