It seems like there are a whole lot of people coming up with new ways to search and find information. There’s Wolfram Alpha, Microsoft’s newly launched Bing, and now there’s Hunch. Bing is trying to compete directly with Google where Wolfram Alpha and Hunch are trying to generate more specific results. With Wolfram Alpha it’s more like a uber-powerful wikipedia. Rather than searching Wolfram for a list of other sites with information you can search for something like ‘ticker msft’ and it will give you some great details about Microsoft’s financial situation.

With Hunch you teach it about yourself so when you want to find something you might like it can answer to the best of it’s ability with a personalized answer. Say you are in the mood to go out for dinner but you don’t know where to go. Search Hunch for ‘What should I make for dinner?’ it will ask you a few questions to get a feel for what you might closely be in the mood for; chicken, beef, fish, or pasta. In the end it suggested I should have Stir Fry, a Burrito, or Pad khing all with a recipe for making each. All of these sounded good but the site forgot to ask if I had the ingredients to make any of these dishes.

For those of you who are new, Hunch helps you make decisions, and gives you results it wouldn’t give other people, getting smarter over time as more people use it. We would like it very much if you would like it. We like it! So very much!

For those of you who are not new, you can now do things you couldn’t do before. You can use the site without logging in — though of course Hunch’s hunches are much better if you do. We give you code so you can post widgets on your blog (it’s on the result page). There’s a new Explore page, which has all kinds of neat-o stuff on it, and which we’ll keep updated with new topics, new users and those interesting correlations that are the byproduct of all our question-answering technology (and which we’ve been posting occasionally to our Twitter).
