RIM (Research In Motion) has assured India and agreed to give limited access to BlackBerry instant messages from 1st of September. It has also promised of talks this week on watching its corporate email which is more secure. RIM is facing August 31st deadline to provide the authorities with the information to track and read the email from BlackBerry enterprise and its messenger service.

Concerns of the government over the potential for militants to use the BlackBerry network to plan the attacks on the country are the reason for the authorities to insist BlackBerry for the access. And the government has warned to shut the services if RIM fails to comply. “They have assured partial access to its Messenger services by September 1 and agreed to provide full access by the end of the year,” a senior government source said.

If Canada based RIM does not comply, it will pull the plug on BlackBerry services, said New Delhi.

Out of 41 million users of RIM, 1 million live in India and upcoming 3G network is also expected to boost the smartphone growth in India. “We hope they will address our security concerns,” an interior ministry official said.
