India Assured By BlackBerry On Access to Services
India was promised by RIM (Research In Motion) a technical solution for decoding the encrypted data of BlackBerry. On Friday, a senior official said, which could stop the shut down of BlackBerry services by Indian security over the national security concerns. Indian authorities had a meeting with RIM officials and they pledged to go with the companies including Google and Skype to protect the country from cyber-spying and internet crimes. These crimes may also include the attacks planned on internet.
Indian authorities have given August 31st as the deadline to RIM to provide the means to read email and instant messages over the phone. If it won’t comply New Delhi would pull the devices from market. This would be threatening to the future of this device in the world’s fastest growing telecoms market.
Until last week RIM was pressurized by Saudi Arabia for the access to data and India is the latest addition to list of countries which have been pressurizing RIM. BlackBerry smartphone is in demand among business professionals and politicians. But governments are scared that it could be a tool to attack the country by terrorists.
“They have assured that they will come with some technical solution for Messenger and enterprise mail next week,” said the senior Indian government source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Our technical team will evaluate if it works.”
