BlackBerry and Saudi Security concerns
Before Canada would address Riyadh’s security concerns over BlackBerry, several mobile firms in Saudi and BlackBerry are planning to test three servers which will send communications and informations through Saudi Arabia. Due to the pressure from security authorities, telecom regulator of Saudi had agreed to give three mobile carriers of the kingdom to meet the unspecified needs before BlackBerry service is permanently shut down by the government.
The decision to ban BlackBerry services was meant to start from Friday which would have affected badly around 700,000 users all over the kingdom. If this test goes according to their expectation and if they are satisfied, then the services will continue normally like before.
Kuwait showed concerns over BlackBerry providing access to pornographic sites to its nationals and it has been talking to BlackBerry on this issue. Canadian firm has been facing lot of pressure from all over the world including India, Lebanon and Algeria, everyone is concerned regarding its encrypted network which governments feel not safe and they want it to be monitored.
Kuwait said, it has not intention of banning the service but it is asking the manufacturer of the device about security concerns. Minister of communication said, “As of right now, we in Kuwait have no intention to stop the BlackBerry services … but at the same time we are following up on direct and indirect negotiations with the company and with fellow Gulf states.”
