250 Foxconn Employees Hospitalized
250 employees at Foxconn, Chennai were taken to the hospital after pesticide made them sick. Foxconn is a Taiwan company and has its plant in Chennai,
According to reports, Foxconn plant in Chennai, India had recently sprayed pesticide as a routine scheduled spraying. Sometime after the pesticide was used, 250 workers started complaining about giddiness and nausea. Immediately all of them were taken to the hospital and treated for the symptoms. Most of them were soon released, but eight were admitted to the hospital for observation.
A representative from Taiwan had been sent to Chennai for investigation and he said, it was just an accident and that accidental poisoning of its employees “may have been caused by the routine spraying of pesticide at the production facility.” This year has been very bad for Foxconn, earlier this year, a worker committed suicide after losing a prototype iPhone 4, as well as seeing 11 suicides and several other attempts. These suicides and deaths drew public attention to the working conditions of the company and many were not happy with the working conditions inside. Company announced salary hike to the employees by 20%.
Foxconn has always been in news for one or the other thing, if this continues, I don’t see any good future for the company’s reputation.
